Komorebi Painting

Posted on February 21, 2025September 27, 2025 by admin

Here is a completed ‘komorebi’ painting where I aimed to express the feeling of tranquility of the light filtered through trees. I think that the linework was somewhat successful in bringing a sense of movement to the piece, though it does feel over-composed in some areas. With the colours, I wanted to convey the freshness of morning light and bring some warmth into it, and I think that the colours support the feeling I was trying to convey.

I wanted to keep it fairly abstract but still allow the viewer to understand what was being depicted, and so I used a layering technique of where I brought in the light areas on top of the dark. I like the effect, but wish I had used more mid and dark tones over all as I feel that it would have been more visually pleasing. Over all, I do think it conveys a moment of contemplation that may be relatable to a viewer.
